Fall has long been treated as the season when travelers can expect lower prices after the summer rush, but Expedia’s latest data shows that those bargains are no longer automatic. The company’s 2026 Autumn Travel Outlook found that hotel prices in some destinations remain higher after summer, even as other places become substantially cheaper. The differences are large enough that choosing the right destination and travel date can change a fall trip’s cost.
Expedia compared hotel and vacation rental prices, flight prices, and lodging searches for travel between September 1 and November 30, 2026. For its price comparisons, the company used Expedia.co.uk data and compared fall stays with travel between June 1 and August 31, with prices current as of August 9.
The findings therefore reflect the British market and should not be interpreted as a measure of global pricing. They show that travelers can still find meaningful fall savings, particularly outside the United Kingdom, but those discounts are concentrated in certain destinations and dates instead of appearing evenly across the season. Travelers who once relied on the end of summer alone to bring prices down may now need to be more selective about when and where they go.
Fall Hotel Prices Drop In The Algarve And Greek Islands
International hotel rates are about 7% lower on average this fall than during summer, according to Expedia, with some destinations offering much steeper reductions. Hotel rates in Albufeira and Faro in Portugal’s Algarve, as well as Mykonos and Kos in Greece, are up to 30% lower after the summer peak. Expedia also highlighted Benidorm, Alicante, and Istanbul among the international destinations offering better fall value.
The picture is less favorable for domestic trips within the United Kingdom, where Expedia found that hotel prices are slightly higher on average in fall than during summer. Birmingham recorded the largest increase at 30%, while Liverpool was up 20%, Cambridge 15%, and Manchester 10%. Several leisure destinations moved in the opposite direction. Newquay, St Ives, Brighton, and the Isle of Wight are around 20% cheaper after summer, while Edinburgh and the Lake District are about 10% cheaper.
Expedia travel expert and spokesperson Melanie Fish also pointed to November as a particularly strong period for value, saying, “International stays on Expedia are, on average, 10% cheaper in November than in summer.”
November Brings Some Of Fall’s Lowest Travel Prices
Expedia’s date-by-date data shows that several of the lowest-priced options fall toward the end of the season. November 27 and September 18 are the cheapest dates for international flights, while November 4 and November 18 offer the lowest prices for international hotel and vacation rental stays.
Expedia also found a clear difference in demand across the season, with September 4 and September 11 ranking as the busiest international flight dates and September 1 and September 5 as the busiest international lodging dates. Later in the fall, demand eases considerably.
November 24 and November 18 are the quietest dates for both international flights and stays, giving travelers who can shift their schedules an alternative to the busier opening weeks of the season. Expedia’s separate lodging search data also reveals which destinations are seeing the fastest growth in interest for fall 2026.

Expedia also tracked which destinations are seeing the fastest growth in lodging searches for fall 2026. The ranking measures year-over-year increases in searches on Expedia.co.uk, so it reflects growth in lodging search interest rather than total visitor numbers or booking volume.
The company compared lodging searches made between April 13 and July 12, 2026, for travel from September through November with searches for the same travel period a year earlier. Luxembourg recorded the largest increase, while destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, Asia, and Puerto Rico also made the top 10.
