United Airlines just unveiled a game-changing offering for its economy flyers wanting to maximize comfort and get shut-eye on long-haul flights.
On March 24, the carrier announced the “United Relax Row.” It’s a full three-seater that extends into an area where travelers can lie flat or sit and stretch their legs. The airline describes it as a fold-out “couch”-type area with adjustable footrests. Customers who book it will also receive a mattress pad to lie on the seats, a blanket, and two pillows.
United highlights the new seating option as ideal for solo travelers, couples, and parents with small children. The exact dimensions when fully extended wasn’t disclosed, so it’s unclear how tall and plus-sized passengers will fare.
The United Relax Row will roll out between 2027 and 2030 on over 200 widebody Boeing 787s and 777s. Each plane will have up to 12 United Relax Rows between United Economy and United Premium Plus.
“You know that feeling when the plane door closes and you realize you get the full row to yourself? We made that a real thing,” United teased in the caption of an Instagram post.
How Do I Book?
The airline hasn’t shared details on the pricing of the United Relax Row. It’s also unclear how the row is booked or the long-haul routes it’ll be on. What we know is that those who book it will receive three seats (a full row) to themselves, which can be converted into a couch-style seating area after takeoff.
What Else Should I Know About United Airlines’ Relax Row?
Families traveling with children who book the adjustable row will receive a plush toy and a kid-friendly travel kit.
United notes that it “holds North American exclusivity” on the Relax Row’s design. It also boasts that it is the first carrier on the continent to offer a seating option of its kind.
“As a leading premium airline, we’re committed to delivering new, industry-leading experiences for all of our customers – and the United Relax Row is the perfect example of that. Customers traveling in United Economy on long-haul flights deserve an option for more space and comfort, and this is one way we can deliver that for them,” stated Andrew Nocella, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. “United is the only North American airline offering a product like the United Relax Row and is one of the many reasons why we’re continuing to win brand loyal customers.”
