5 Festivals Where Black Joy, Music, And Culture Collide
R&B Soul Picnic – Atlanta, Georgia (May 9, 2026)

This epic Mother’s Day celebration at Shirley Franklin Park will be an outdoor, family-friendly fete with a soulful heart. The event brings people together to uplift our mothers and be around family and community. All generations are welcome, and the day will include live tributes to timeless artists, including Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, Al Green, and Luther Vandross. The festival also aims to directly improve mental health, “creating space for joy, release, connection, and restoration through music and community.”
AFRAM Festival – Baltimore, Maryland (June 19-22, 2026)

Kicking off the summer during Juneteenth Weekend, this family-friendly bash is an epic celebration where Black American music, culture, and Baltimore’s local community are all at the forefront. This year’s lineup includes Charlie Wilson, SWV, Mario, Tamia, Normani, Chloe Bailey, and more. The free-to-attend festival, taking place at Druid Hill Park, is sure to have Black joy on display. Attendees can also anticipate onsite engagement revolving around Black history, culture, art, and wellness, as well as children’s activities.
Africa Oyé – Liverpool, UK (June 20-21, 2026)

Taking place in Sefton Park, Africa Oyé is a lively musical celebration with acts representing the breadth of musical genres from the Black diaspora. Rain or shine, attendees are in for a high-energy experience filled with dancing, flavorful eats, bars, and global sounds from talented musicians and DJs. You’ll hear everything, including hip-hop, reggae, Afrobeat, house, highlife, Amapiano, funk, soul, spirituals, and much more. The family-friendly event also promises an arts-and-crafts area, free workshops, and carnival rides. Africa Oyé markets itself as one of – if not the – UK’s biggest celebration of African music and culture, so it’s one you don’t want to miss.
St. Kitts Music Festival – Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 25-27, 2026)

During this three-day event at Warner Park Stadium, attendees will enjoy some of the island’s best soca, R&B, dancehall, and reggae. It’s the perfect excuse for a tropical getaway if you’re looking for a good time. This year’s lineup of stellar headliners is Fantasia, Kehlani, Machel Montano, Beres Hammond, and Mavado. During the day, attendees can explore St. Kitts, learn about local culture, hit the beach, and rest up for the evenings’ live shows.
Openair Frauenfeld – Frauenfeld, Switzerland (July 9-11, 2026)

Known as the biggest hip-hop festival in Europe, this is a major event where attendees come from all over to enjoy the genre’s music and culture. In addition to American artists, expect sets from talented acts spanning hip-hop subgenres from across Europe. This year’s lineup includes Don Toliver, Ken Carson, Gunna, Wiz Khalifa, BIA, and Bktherula. Attendees should know that this open-air festival is mostly for those 16 and over, though minors will be allowed entry with a guardian’s written approval. Camping is also a big part of the experience, so if you plan to, be sure to reserve a campsite.
