This Valentine’s Day, Paris’ Musée de la Vie Romantique (Museum of Romantic Life) is reportedly reopening its doors after around a year and a half of closure to the public.

A globally recognized city of romance, Paris has countless experiences perfect for Valentine’s Day with a partner or on a solo date. That said, if you’re looking for an activity that’s less on the nose, visiting the newly renovated museum is the perfect option.

Time Out reported earlier this month that the Parisian museum is reopening on February 14. While there, visitors get a stunning glimpse into Paris’ contributions to the Romanticism era between the late 18th and 19th centuries. The Museum of Romantic Life notes that the Romanticism period was an artistic and cultural movement that sparked political engagement. It further details that movement “placed emotions, imagination, and freedom at the heart of creation.”

On the ground floor of the Nouvelle Athènes-based home and art studio turned museum, visitors are presented with the works of its former homeowner, Romanticism-era painter Ary Scheffer. He was an artistic leader of the time who hosted many social gatherings (or “salons”) with other European creatives of the era. The ground floor also features works by George Sand, a Romantic female novelist, playwright, and writer who wrote under a male name to more easily get her work published. Then, on the upper level of the two-story museum, it showcases how Romantics captured the period and their feelings through “fantastic imagination” and various additional artworks.

The courtyard leads to a charming greenhouse that houses the Rose Bakery tea room. There, visitors can soak up natural light and enjoy delightful light bites and beverages. The property also has an equally stunning garden area where guests can sit and relax between time spent inside.
